Introduction of the Church
The Immaculate Conception Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral that serves as the mother church of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa, which covers the municipalities of Palawan west of Puerto Princesa City. The cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, who is the patroness of Puerto Princesa.

The history of the cathedral dates back to 1872, when the first mass in Puerto Princesa was held at the site of the present cathedral by the Augustinian Recollect Fray Ezequiél Moreno, who is now a saint. Moreno also established the town and its parish mission under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception. The cathedral has been rebuilt several times since its establishment, and the current structure was completed in 1961.
The cathedral is known for its interesting angular structure, which is reminiscent of the Gothic churches built in Medieval Europe. The facade is painted light blue, which contrasts with the white columns and arches. The interior is adorned with stained glass windows, wood carvings, and religious paintings. They create a pretty, colorful and mysterious atmosphere inside the church, as the sunlight shines through these window and casts different hues of light. The cathedral also houses a historical marker of Saint Ezequiél Moreno, which was unveiled in 2014 to commemorate his contribution to the founding of the city.
