Day 1 Arrival Ulaanbaatar

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar at Chinggis Khan airport or train station, our local tour guide will meet you and transfer you to Hotel. The hotel check-in is after 2p.m, Free time, and rest to adjust for the time zone.

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar - Tsagaan Suvarga Purple Cliff (280 km, 4-5 hours' drive)

Drive through the Gobi steppe, Tsagaan Suvarga Purple Cliff

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: In Local Tourist Camp

 

Enjoy breakfast at the local hotel and drive to Middle Gobi Province, where the horse breeders and sheep herders inhabit on the semi-desert vast steppe. It is about 280 km and needs 4-5 hours of driving on a paved road.

 

Arrive at the Mandalgobi town and Lunch at the restaurant, Refuel, and explore the Gobi vast steppe. Continue driving to Tsagaan Suvarga Purple Cliff, which is an interesting landscape - the land makes the purple-colored cliff and it makes you feel that you are standing at the bottom of the dried ocean. Trekking and walking in the purple cliffs, where there is a cave inside of low rolling hills. Enjoy a local dinner and stay in a ger camp.

Day 3 Tsagaan Suvarga Purple Cliff – Dalanzadgad – Vulture Gorge (155 km, 4-5 hours' drive)

Rock paintings and carvings at Del Mountain, Vulture Gorge

Local breakfast is offered in the ger camp. Then we will drive to Del Mountain with red rocks, which is the nature gallery of rock paintings and rock carvings dated back 8000BC-2000BC. The gallery has more than 5000 rock carvings of images of wild goats, men, wolves, tigers, camels, horses, and snow leopards. Walk rocks and explore the rock paintings, Then you will drive to Dalanzadgad town of the south Gobi desert, refueling here and driving to ger camp, You will have lunch at the restaurant of Ger camp.

In the afternoon you will drive to Vulture Gorge (Mongolian name is Yolyn am Gorge) in Gobi 3 Beauties National Park (155 km and 4-5 hours' drive). Visit the beautiful Vulture Valley, where you can walk and photograph spectacular local landscapes. At the opening of the valley is a Local Natural History Museum displaying interesting information about the animals of the area; visit the museum “3 Beauties of Gobi”; Trekking in the gorge. Dinner is arranged at the ger camp where we will stay overnight.

Day 4 Vulture Gorge – Khongor Sand Dunes (220 km, 5-6 hours' drive)

After breakfast, we will drive through the vast steppe of the Gobi Desert, heading to Khongor Sand dunes (220 km – 5-6 hours driving through the Gobi vast steppe). Arriving at the camp, we will have lunch and enjoy our free time.

 

In the afternoon by 4p.m when the sun is going down, you will drive to Khongor sand dunes. Hike to the Singing Sands peak of the dunes, and explore Adag Lake in the sand. Then drive back to Ger camp. Dinner is offered at the local ger camp.

Day 5 Khongor Sand Dunes - Bayanzag Flaming Cliff

Camel breeder family visit, Camel ride, Bayanzag Flaming Cliff, Bayanzag Saxaul tree forest, Bayanzag Neolithic site

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: at a local nomadic family

 

In the morning, enjoy the ger camp breakfast, then we will visit the camel breeder family home- yurt, you will get introduced to local family and talk to them and ask about their lifestyle. Your tour guide will give you instructions for safety, and take a camelback ride on the sand dunes for 1 hour. Lunch is arranged at the ger camp.

 

After lunch, we will drive to Bayanzag Flaming Cliff, which is called a dinosaur cemetery place dated back 85 million years ago. Visit Bayanzag flaming cliffs, where found petrified dinosaur fossils and eggs. First, watch the documentary video by National Geographic about the Bayanzag cliff and dinosaurs. Walk and light trek in the red cliff for 1 hour. Then drive to Bayanzag Saxaul tree forest – Gobi jungle with Gobi cactus-type trees, which is the best place for photographs. Then drive for 5 km and see the steppe site, which is called the Bayanzag Neolithic site- an ancient man sheltering area with stone tools. Drive in another direction to the Silk Road, which was used until 1911 from 400 B.C., The Silk Road is seen today fairly blurly. The Silk road was the road on which merchants traveled from south China to the ancient Roman Empire. Drive back to Ger camp for overnight.

Day 6 Bayanzag Flaming Cliff - Ongi Temple Ruins – Arvaikheer town

Ongi Buddhist Monastery ruins

In the morning we will drive to Ongi Buddhist monastery ruins at the bank of Ongi River (110 km – app.2 hours' drive), which had about a thousand lamas in 1937. The temple was founded by a lama named Bari Yonzon and is located on a small but panoramic cliff on the bank of the Ongi River. On the way, we will admire how big and vast the Mongolian steppe is.

 

Trek through the temple ruins and hills, visit the restored new Buddhist temple and explore the ruins – the biggest ruins in Mongolia. After visiting the temple ruins, drive heading to Arvaikheer town of Ovorkhangai province. Box lunch on the way is arranged in the open air.

 

On the way, you will see the Mongolian Horse Monuments. Keep driving to the town. Upon arriving at the town, enjoy your free time. Dinner and stay at a local hotel.

Day 7 Arvaikheer – Kharakhorum (100 km, 1-2 hours' drive)

Kharakhorum capital of Great Mongolian Empire: Erdene Zuu Monastery Museum, Turtle rock, Kharakhorum History Museum

Breakfast and drive to Kharakhorum town (100 km, 1-2 hours' drive).  It was Kharakhorum capital of the Great Mongolian Empire in 13th century, which was founded by Chinggis Khan in 1220.

 

After lunch, explore Erdene Zuu Monastery Museum – the first biggest Buddhist center in the medieval ages it was closed and badly damaged in 1930s. Explore Turtle Rock on the south hill, Visit to Kharakhorum History Museum. Visit the archaeological excavation site in Kharakhorum town.

Day 8 Kharakhorum - Ugii Lake & Wetlands Nature Reserve

Enjoy your breakfast, and then drive to Khoshoo Tsaidam on the bank of the Orkhon River to explore the Tureg Rock Inscription-Monument about the Kultigen King of the Tureg tribe and battling (50 km & 1 hour's drive). This Khoshoo Tsaidam area was ruins of Ancient Mongol-Tureg city, who were very strong in 6-8AD.

 

Drive to Ugii clear water lake, have Lunch, and enjoy free time, walking along lakeshore, Visit Wetlands Ugii Park’s information and research center and observe birds on other shore of the lake by binoculars.

Day 9 Ugii Lake & Wetlands Nature Reserve – Hustai National Park (300 km, 5-6 hours' drive)

After breakfast, drive to Wild Horses National Park Hustai/ Khustain Nuruu (300 km,5-6 hour drive on paved road), On the way explore the ancient city ruins dated to 11 and 17 centuries on Khara Bukha river.

 

Continues the driving, Arrival at Khustain Nuruu Park, you will have lunch in the restaurant of camp, Free time until 4p.m, then visit the park information center and the biologist will give you the information about wild horses, Then the biologists will accompany you heading to deep inside into the mountains with wild horses, wild horses name is Takhi and they were extinct because of hunting and presenting to foreign countries. You will walk in the mountains to take the picture of wild horses and herds of red deer.

Transfer back to the ger camp. Have dinner and stay in Ger camp.

Day 10 Wild Horses National Park - Ulaanbaatar (90 km)

Gandantegchilen Monastery, Square Chinggis Khan, Friendship Monument, Mongolia Folk Performance

This morning we will drive to Ulaanbaatar city -90 km on a paved road. When you arrive in the city, you will have a city tour including visits to Gandantegchilen Monastery- the Present biggest monastery, which houses for giant standing Buddha statue. Then visit the main Square Chinggis Khan, and Friendship Monument on Zaisan Hill, After lunch, you will transfer to the hotel, Free time, By 6p.m – you will enjoy the Mongolia Folk Performance with songs and contortion acts.

Day 11 Ulaanbaatar

Chinggis Khan Giant Statue, Terelj National Park, Horse breeder family visit and horse ride, Buddhist Meditation temple of Aryabala

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: In Ulaanbaatar

 

Have a leisurely breakfast in the hotel, then drive to Chinggis Khan Giant Statue on the Tsonjin Boldog Valley, which is a historical place for Chinggis Khan. He had rested here during his travel to Hereid Tribe to ask for help. Drive to Terelj National Park, visit to horse breeder family, and do Horseback riding for 1 hour. Visit to Buddhist Meditation temple of Aryabala, Hiking and trekking in green meadows to reach the temple.

 

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar City and enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 12 Ulaanbaatar, Departure

Transfer to the airport

After breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport/train station to your next destination.
